Nokia Lumia 900 4G already on its way out?

Are you a fan or a user of the Windows Phone platform, then you will definitely agree with most of the other fans of the ecosystem that the Nokia Lumia  900 4G is one of the best Windows Phone devices to be released in the market. In fact, the handset is the current flagship device of Finnish manufacturer Nokia and was released in US shores last April via AT&T. However, there could be a possibility that the Nokia Lumia  900 4G is already headed to retirement after just a couple of months of sitting in the shelves. The reason? Nokia is said to release two new Windows Phone 8 smartphones on a press event scheduled on September5.

When you look back, Nokia has always been in the forefront of smartphone manufacturers a couple of years ago but the entry of big-name manufacturers such as Apple, Samsung and HTC in the smartphone competition effectively placed Nokia in the back seat of things. It had to endure being a spectator while the other manufacturers had all the fun (and of course the profits) in the smartphone market. Nokia however got a second lease on life after it entered into a strategic partnership with software giant Microsoft to produce handsets for the Windows Phone platform.
With the release of the earlier Lumia 710 and Lumia 800 devices and now the Nokia Lumia 900 4G, the manufacturer finally regained some of its lost glory and became relevant again in the smartphone market. However, with the rumored release of these new Windows Phone 8 devices, the Nokia Lumia 900 4G could effectively be put out to pasture.
The two new smartphones, codenamed “Phi” and “Arrow” will be part of the Lumia line of devices with the Phi being the higher-end of the two and will effectively replace the Nokia Lumia 900 4G at AT&T. The handset will supposedly come with a polycarbonate chassis and a curved glass display while the Arrow will be a midranger that will be released by both AT&T and T-Mobile.
As of the moment, there has been no confirmation yet if the Nokia Lumia 900 4G will  be given the EOL (End of Life) status by AT&T but we are hoping that it will still be made available for mass consumption. After all, the handset is still pretty capable when you come to think of it. In fact, the camera of the Nokia Lumia 900 4G just got improved with the recent Tango update and is still considered by many as the best handset in the Windows Phone platform. As for its internals, the Nokia Lumia 900 4G comes with a QualComm APQ8055 SnapDragon chipset that gives it a 1.4 GHz Scorpion processor and 512MB of RAM. Its storage space comes up to 16GB while its 4.3-inch display is a ClearBlack-powered AMOLED panel with a 480 x 800 resolution. Its shooting department on the other hand features a rear 8MP shooter and a front 1.3MP video call and self-portrait camera.

Nokia Lumia 900 Tango update available now!

Good news for Nokia Lumia 900 owners. The Finnish company released its much awaited Tango update for the popular Lumia 900 today.
To update your Nokia Lumia 900, simply open up the Zune app on your computer and plug in your device. The whole Nokia Lumia Tango update process should take about 45 minutes total to complete.
Features and fixes of the Tango update from Nokia’s official blog.
This update brings the following enhancements for US Lumia 900 owners:
  • Flip-to-silence feature
  • Camera performance enhancements
  • Battery performance enhancements
  • Startup sequence performance enhancements
Most Nokia Lumia 900 owners will appreciate the Flip-to-silence feature, which mutes your ringer if you turn the phone over. This will come in real handy if you’re in a meeting or with a close friend and you wish to not be interrupted.
Also, the enhancements will allow users to more reliably be able to open the camera when the phone is locked using the dedicated camera button.
Say what you will about Windows Phone 7 and Nokia, but they sure are prompt with their software updates.
